East Coast Champs- Mount Pearl Marlins take 6 th over all, and top Newfoundland team at East Coast Swimming Championships in Halifax ! 15 Qualified swimmers aged 12-17 from the Mount Pearl Marlins attended the East Coast Swimming Championships July 3 rd to 6 th . In overall team points the Marlins ranked 6th with 1082 points, followed by other Newfoundland teams Corner Brook Rapids 12 th with 387 points and St. John's Legends 15 th with 309 points, and the remaining Newfoundlanders travelling as News with 56 points. The Marlins had many successes, including Darci Tucker with a new provincial record in the 50 breaststroke, with a time of 37.82, and to Becca Dyer also from the Marlins who qualified for the Eastern Canadian Championships 2009 in the 50 meter freestyle. Becca joins a small group of just 4 age group swimmers from this province who are qualified for the 2009 swim season. Ryan Adams competed in the 2km open water competition and placed 9 th overall. The 15 swimmers attending from the Marlins took home 22 medals. Ryan Adams took gold in 400 free, silver in 1500 free, and bronze in 200 back. Liam Cadigan took silver in 200 fly, 400 IM, and 50 fly. Becca Dyer took silver in 50 free, 100 free, and bronze in 200 free. Gavin Dyke took Gold in 400 free and 200 free, and silver in 1500 free, 800 free and 200 IM. Lesley-Marie Lahey achieved a silver medal in the 200 free, and Sam Leawood gold in the 50 fly. Darci Tucker took gold in 200 breast, and silver in 50 breast and bronze in both the 400 IM, and 200 IM. The Marlins boys 13-14 year old relay, made up of Zach Gosse, Aiden Wiseman, Ryan Adams, and Alex Badcock placed 3 rd in the 400 Medley. The 11-12 girls 200 free relay made up of Sarah Barry, Darci Tucker, Lesley Marie Lahey, and Leah Vardy placed 2 nd . Age Group Nationals- Congratulations to the Marlins on a great meet. The Marlins had 4 finals- Laura twice, Ryan and Darci! Last year the Marlins had no finals, and we had many swimmers show this year that they are ready to step it up next year. The Marlins made up 75% of Female Provincial All Star Relay team and 50% of the Male Team! Way to go Marlins! Click here for results from Age Group Nationals.
